Downtown

The City of Burlington was originally established as a New Hampshire land grant in 1749 for then-overcrowded Massachusetts and Connecticut. Ethan Allen soon became a well-known defender of the land from New York settlers, forming the famous Green Mountain Boys. Since then, Burlington has flourished into the beloved “Queen City” (also affectionately referred to by its airport code, BTV). Although relatively small, the City has earned international praise and our downtown is the core of it all!

While Church Street Marketplace runs through the center of downtown, the entire district is full of small, locally-owned boutiques, restaurants, bars, creatives and innovators that enrich our vibrant City. Enjoy a day of shopping and exploring throughout downtown or plan a night out. The Flynn Theater is the perfect place to enjoy a musical or show, or stop by the Vermont Comedy Club for improv, stand up, and great cocktails. Don’t forget dinner – you’ll find the best restaurants Vermont has to offer downtown. Downtown even boasts some James Beard-nominated chefs!
