What's up, Downtown?!
The Main Street Project
Area impacted: Downtown Burlington along Main Street between South Winooski Avenue and Pine Street.
The Main Street concept is about balancing all the uses of our public right of way. It will optimize the roadway by converting diagonal parking to parallel. These changes will allow for the introduction of wider sidewalks, appropriately sized tree belts to support tree health and stormwater management, and a protected bike lane. Each intersection includes opportunities for outdoor seating, public art, views of the lake, or bike parking.
The Main Street Project is part of the larger Great Streets plan, which aims for long-term sustainability and transforming our downtown streets into dynamic public spaces while ensuring that renovations and improvements can be responsibly maintained for decades to come. Explore the FAQs or check out the Main Street Traffic Detour Map.
What's up, South End?!
The Champlain Parkway Project
Area impacted: South End along Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and King Street.
The Champlain Parkway will be a two-lane, 25 MPH road designed with pedestrians, cyclists, visitors, and residents in mind. Connecting the South End with downtown Burlington, this project will alleviate traffic on neighborhood streets while allowing everyone to navigate all 2.8 miles of roadway safely. Additional enhancements include stormwater improvements, buried utility lines, and pedestrian-actuated signalization. Explore the FAQs or check out the Champlain Parkway Project Map.
What's up, Church Street?!
Marketplace Brick Work
Thanks to congressionally directed funding from Senator Leahy, the Church Street Marketplace can move forward with critical capital repairs to its brickwork. The project will primarily focus on the intersection of Church and College streets and the world map in front of City Hall. The intersection at Church and College has been completely removed and replaced. The world map will be completely removed and replaced during September and October 2024.
